The route end of Herekino Forest Track through to Waiotehue Road / Takahue is closed until further notice for logging. The logging is expected to take two weeks. The alternative meantime is a long walk down Diggers Valley Road to Takahue. Walkers should accommodate this into their schedule - it's a good day's tramp through Herekino Forest to its ending at Diggers Valley Road, and the proposed bypass from that ending (which is remote) via Diggers Valley Road, turning right onto Takahue Road and through to Takahue is then a further 15 kilometres. We will advise as soon as the old route, which is much more direct than this, re-opens.
