Description
(North to South)

Best at low tide:
From the southern end of Orewa Beach, follow the path to the bridge over the Orewa River & east into the Amorino Reserve on the southern banks. Follow the signs for the Rodney District Council’s Coastal Walkway – Rosario Cres; walkway through to Walton St; Red Beach; around the rocks on an outgoing tide to steps leading up towards Glenelg Rd; turn SE and follow the grassy clifftop walkway up and down for 500m to a pedestrian accessway leading through to Duncansby Rd.
(Alternatively, if the tide is well out, you can keep on around the coast, minding the slippery rocks, to a concrete ramp which will also lead you directly up to this walkway).

From there it’s a walk across the Whangaparaoa Peninsula: Walk up Duncansby Rd & turn left on to Vipond Rd. Turn right into D’Oyly Drive & at the bottom of the road, turn east onto the walkway through D’Oyle Reserve. Follow the path all the way to Brightside Rd. Cross over into Ozone Rd & take the steps at the end up to Hiwi Rd.  Walk west to & cross over Whangaparaoa Rd into Scott Rd. Follow it all the way to Wade River Rd. Turn south & follow it in a big loop.

You’ll eventually come to a jetty (the 2nd one) & launching ramp by the Weiti Boating Club (Tel: 424-5400) on the Weiti River. Here you may be able to get a lift across the Weiti River to the Stillwater side with local boaties.

Alternatively, contact Te Araroa’s local supporter who is willing to row walkers across if he’s available:
Gunter Haferkamp, 266 Wade River Rd. Tel: 424-3443 or email gunterh@clear.net.nz

Or try the Stillwater Boating Club (Tel: 09 428-2185) on the other side of the Weiti River.
