Description (North to South) |
This walk is mostly on back country roads plus 8km on forest roads through a pine plantation.
Walk approximately 3.5 kms south down Mangaokewa North Rd and turn SE (left) onto Mangaokewa Rd and follow it in an easterly direction for approx. 8.5 kms where it'll turn northwards for 2kms, then turn easterly again (at the intersection with Waipa Valley Rd on the west side). Keep following it (it starts to turn south) for another 7.5 kms to just past a landing strip on the west side of the road. Turn sharply NE into Beaver Rd (a private Maori road).
Follow Beaver Rd NE (for 3 kms) and cross over a stile into Horokino Forest. Follow the orange markers (and some of the Upper Waipa River) for 8 kms to traverse this pine plantation - firstly on a forest track which becomes Waitaramona Rd (ignoring the numerous side tracks) .
From the edge of the pine forest, it is then 1.5 kms south to SH30.
Turning NE, follow SH 30 for 2 kms until turning south into Barryville Rd. From here, it's 3 kms south to DOC's Pureora Forest Park. |
