Description (North to South) |
In time Te Araroa Trust hopes to add a Queenstown to Glenorchy section to the trail but Lake Wakatipu will still form a natural break in Te Araroa's continuum.
As things stand, the trailheads on either side of the Lake are at Queenstown and at the Greenstone Carpark. They make natural beginning or end points for Te Araroa section trampers so it's really only through-trampers that have to deal with the issue of getting from one trailhead to the other. There are several options available and trampers can use whatever safe method they like without it compromising the integrity of their thru-tramp.
One option to get between Queenstown and the Greenstone Wharf, a short distance from the carpark, is by charter boat but this is expensive. A far cheaper alternative is to take a road shuttle via Glenorchy. There are regular tramper services that do this and sometimes there is also a water taxi running from Glenorchy to the Greenstone Wharf. |
