Description
(North to South)

This part of the track is initially a good tramping track, undulating along the Wellington

skyline with magnificent views on a good day but exposed to the elements and high winds.

It then meanders along footpaths through suburban streets and tracks through

pretty bush reserves until reaching the Wellington Botanic Gardens and Cable Car to the

City Centre

From Johnsonville re join track at Truscott Ave.Left up track to Mt.KauKau

At Mt Kau Kau rejoin track at Woodmancoate/Clark Streets

Join the Northern Walkway, heading south from Truscott Ave or the Skyline Walkway from Mt Kau Kau.

Follow the skyline walkway south and then exit down Bell's Track to Awarua Street.

Follow Awarua street down and near the bottom turn right into Cummings Park.

Exit Cummings Park  right onto Ottawa Road

Pass roundabout to city centre and cross pedestrian crossing

Right along Waikowhai Road until see Trelissick park on left

Enter the park and follow the Northern Walkway to Wightwicks Field.

Right along true left of Korimako Stream and follow until rejoin Northern walkway at Kaiwhara Stream

Right over bridge continuing along Northern Walkway

Exit at Hanover Street

Continue on Northern walkway through suburban streets

Cross Wadestown Road, Margaret Street and Weld Street to Te Ahumairangi (Tinakori Hill)

Left on to Te Ahumairangi (Tinakori Hill) and follow Northern Walkway to St Mary Street

Exit St Mary Street right into Tinakori Road.

Cross Tinakori Road at pedestrian crossing into Founders Gates of Botanical Gardens

Follow markers through Gardens to the Cable Car and Wellington City.

 

 

 

From Viewing platform head south along marked track or Northern Walkway

Follow track and exit down Bell's track to Awarua Street

Follow Awarua street down to Cummings Park on right.

Exit Cummings Park on Ottawa Road and turn right

Follow along Ottawa Road just past roundabout and cross at pedestrian crossing (Waikowhai Road).

Continue south along foot path to Trelissick Park on left.

Follow Northern Walkway signs through Trelissick Park to valley floor through Wightwicks Field

Continue up bush track and exit Trelissick Park at Hanover Street (cul de sac)

Walk up Hanover Street, exit left crossing at Wadestown road to pedestrian steps just before shops.

Walk up  Weld Street, crossing Margaret Street.

Continue up Weld Street to Tinakori Hill track on left (still Northern Walkway)

Follow south around  Tinakori Hill and exit at St Mary's Street.

Down St Mary's Street to Tinakori Road and turn right

Along Tinakori Road to Botanic Gardens, Founders Entrance 

Follow along sealed pathway via Fragrant garden, Tree House Visitors Centre,

Wakefield Way, Succulent Garden and Myrtle Way to cable car and city centre.

 Follow markers through gardens to the Cable Car.

Extra Info

 Bypass in Trelissick Park through Northern Walkway if Korimako Stream  flooded

Section along the tops are very exposed and prone to high winds.
