The rest of New Zealand will continue to be subject to Alert Level 2 restrictions for the same period.

At Alert Level 3, short low-risk walks in your local neighbourhood are okay so long as face masks are worn and physical distancing of two metres is maintained from anybody outside your bubble. Overnight tramping is off-limits at Alert Level 3, as is staying at Department of Conservation huts or campsite within the Auckland region.

At Alert Level 2, Te Araroa trail walking can be done so long as physical distancing is adhered to and good hand hygiene and cough etiquette are followed. Department of Conservation huts and campsites in regions under Level 2 restrictions remain open, with some additional guidelines in place for their use.

Anybody planning a walk on the trail should register on our website to facilitate easier contact tracing if a case of COVID-19 is detected among trail users at any point in future.

Stay safe,

Mark Weatherall
Executive Director, Te Araroa Trust
