Cutting the tape
Cutting the tape: l to r. Two members of Te Araroa Wellington Trust - Penny Redward, who took charge of putting this section in place, and chairman Denis McLean, Mayor of Kapiti Coast District Council Jenny Rowan, and local iwi representative Ani Parata.

Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan today opened the Waikanae to Paekakariki section of Te Araroa. The Friends of Waikanae River group joined members of Te Araroa Wellington Regional Trust to guide 40 other walkers on this latest 22km section of the Cape Reinga to Bluff trail. It ended with a sausage sizzle at Paekakariki, where walkers described the trail section as "easy but interesting" - so easy in fact that after bolting their Paekakariki sausage, a few hardy souls walked back again.

For a full description of the walk please see the 'Trail Maps' section on this website. Descriptions of two other Wellington sections of Te Araroa are also available there.
