Woman with stage 4 brain cancer walking 3000km - the length of New Zealand

On the first day of Kate Coatsworth’s six-month, 3000-kilometre walk of the length of New Zealand, her shoes filled with water wading through a lagoon, leaving her with blisters on every “absolutely destroyed” toe. On September 7, just four months after finishing treatment for stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme – the deadliest form of brain cancer – the 34-year-old set off to traverse the Te Araroa Trail, from Cape Reinga to Bluff. The Thames woman has been walking for six weeks, all in the name of raising awareness and funds to help support brain tumour patients and their families.
