You do not need a permit, or to pay a fee to walk Te Araroa.But, please register so we can record who is walking Te Araroa. This gives us valuable information to use with funders and supporters.
Te Araroa Trust relies on donations and grants to care for the trail and share it with so many people. We invite people walking Te Araroa to make a donation.
We suggest a donation of :
- NZ$750pp for those walking the length of Te Araroa.
- NZ$400 for those walking only one island, and
- smaller amounts for more specific tracks/distances.
Please note: a short section of the Queen Charlotte Track, at the top of the South Island, requires a permit. You can buy this permit online.
