Te Araroa Trust has learned that Phelan McDade, the walker who died in the in the Boyle River on Wednesay 5 June, was walking Te Araroa. We are heartbroken to learn of this deeply tragic event. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and all those affected by this devastating incident.

During times like these, we are reminded of the strength of the Te Araroa community. We acknowledge those who responded to the emergency and extend our gratitude to those offering support. Together, we share in grief and remembrance.

Loss affects us all, seen and unseen. We send our deepest aroha to those mourning and encourage walkers to look out for one another on the trail.
