Otago

Te Araroa in Otago provides a wide range of tramps, from the rigors of the Motatapu Track to easy strolling alongside the Hawea and Clutha Rivers or around Lakes Wanaka and Wakatipu.

The trail passes through resort towns that offer opportunity for diversion into other recreational activity. This is an area renowned as a tourist Mecca and for good reason.

The trail leaves Otago on the Mavora Walkway. A boat ride from Glenorchy across Lake Wakatipu gives entry onto the first extensive beech forest since North Canterbury, and the trail continues on through an impressive glacier-planed valley.
