Ways to Walk
Walk a little, or walk the lot. There is no single way to walk Te Araroa: it is your journey, your pace, and your adventure. Here are the four ways people take on the trail.
A day walkForty-nine stretches of Te Araroa you can finish before dinner. No permits, no registration, and probably closer than you think.A multi-day sectionThirty-two sections, from two days to a fortnight. Long enough to feel like a journey, short enough to fit a holiday. One islandWalk Te Ika-a-Māui (North Island) or Te Waipounamu (South Island) end to end, around 50 to 80 days of walking. The full trailThrough-walk the entire length of Aotearoa in one continuous journey: roughly 3,000 km over four to six months.
Whichever way you choose, start with Before You Go and don’t forget to register for your Te Araroa Pass.
