Wellington wanders: How to tour the capital on foot
Why not walk one of our most spectacular sections? Running from Paekākāriki to Pukerua Bay on the Kāpiti Coastline, the Escarpment Track is a far more doable 9.1km, four-hour walk. The trail follows the Kāpiti railway line before climbing 220 metres above sea level. Also known as the Stairway to Heaven, it features more than 1000 steps, two swing bridges and views across to Kāpiti Island.
